Malama the A’ina, Pono Preachers: They aren’t the Rubbah Slippah Folks

After seeing numerous hate comments and nastiness among the A’ole crowd, I started asking myself as to why these folks seem to not embody the local style spirit?  Do these folks, who are demonizing farmers across our state, have any roots to plantation style culture?  To me, they do not speak or act with the rubbah slippah folks, a term coined by Richard Ha.  Let’s see who these folks really are…

Nomi Carmona of the Babes Against Biotech: Ms. No Aloha #1 from Corona, California

The leader of the Babes Against Biotech is Nomi Carmona.  She loves to speak in her Hawaiian phrases and such and says how she wants to protect the aina.  Lo and behold, her home aina is not Hawaii!  Maybe her name needs to be Nomi California!

Jessica Mitchell aka Senator Nishihara’s “Go Back to Japan” Girl and Babes Against Biotech from Sacramento, California

Another notorious BAB is Jessica Mitchell, who made her name known across the land as the “Go Back to Japan” message to Senator Nishihara.  What would happen if someone left her a message, “Go back to California!”

Representative Jessica Wooley “I want a label” legislator and I Love BABs from Scottsdale, Arizona

She has her roots in the local plantation style ways because she was born and raised on the plantations of Arizona and schooled in California.

Earthjustice Attorney Paul Achitoff “GMOs are being shoved down our throats” lawyer not from Hawaii

He speaks for the local people every since he landed in Hawaii in 1990.  Definitely has his roots in local ways and ancestors from the plantations.  He’s protecting farmers too? Really?

The vile comments seen here make it very obvious and clear that these people are not the rubbah slippah folks.  They can easily speak the lingo of malama the a’ina, and pono, but you can’t find a shred of it in what they say or do to farmers and others.  These people never knew what “small kid time” meant or what it means to be local.  They do not share the plantation style values of respect and coexistence that was taught back in those days.  This is a well bankrolled campaign paid for by lots of mainland monies to spread mainland values and destroy local ways.

They are not the local voices that should be heard.  Time to hear out the real local folks that know how to act and speak the true pono way…  The farmers!

Bill 2491: The Truth Comes Out

On a freshly posted blog by Civil Beat about the lawsuit filed by the seed companies on Kauai, there is proof that there was no science involved in the whole issue to begin with clearly stated by this activist.

Screenshot 2014-01-11 12.57.24

Screenshot 2014-01-11 12.58.17

It’s clear here that the whole issue was based in fear and hearsay.  No evidence presented would ever change these folks’ minds at all.   It really didn’t matter if any attempts were made by the companies to be good neighbors because nothing would ever be good enough except being completely out.  Let’s see what holds up in the court where evidence is key and hearsay is not.

The Whole World is Watching Ground Zero

stickfingerchick

Yes, the whole world is watching Kauai and their A’ole GMO mob members.  It is ground zero for classiness apparently.  Give a nice wave to others while your kids run around you and see you do it.

Mahalo Kauai County Council for supporting these folks and what they do to farmers!

The Norwegian Aloha of Helen Lovell

So the anti-GMO bill 2491 veto was overridden today and it is no surprise that those same A’oles are at it again and can’t control their mouths or their behavior.  It is amazing that there are adults out there like Helen Lovell who complain about no aloha and then publicly post this kind of stuff all over the social media.  What she hasn’t yet realized is that this is just day one and it’s not even enacted yet.  Thank goodness she didn’t tell anyone to drink poison or threaten crop destruction.

Screen shot 2013-11-16 at 6.55.59 PM

She’s a great example of the respect and aloha of the dialogue here in Hawaii.  Something that our Congressional Representative Tulsi Gabbard really should see and understand who she is supporting.  I had to send it to her on her Facebook page which she unblocked me from because I publicly called her out on it.

Screen shot 2013-11-16 at 7.31.59 PM

I’ve been called a shill, a troll, and given a nickname, Tokyo Rose, but never loser and cockroach before.  This does indeed illustrate a new higher level of aloha in the A’ole GMO Club of Kauai!

Put Up a Pro GMO Page & They Will Come!

If you ever are curious about who is an A’ole and the level of their intelligence, just set up a pro GMO page on Facebook.  If an A’ole ever gets a hold of it, you’ll get a flood of comments that are either mean or nasty or so ignorant that it’s amazing they don’t even realize how uninformed they are.  That is the A’ole way of doing things in Hawaii.

Here’s quite a few examples found on the GogoGMO page.  (Note: All comments are publicly available.)

Here’s Jessica Mitchell, who is notorious for her “Go back to Japan” comment to Senator Nishihara that will live in infamy:

The Representatives of the GMO Free Club of Kauai

Funny how the news stories explicitly stated that the threats to the mayor were not representative of the anti-GMO movement.  Then another supporter said that they are 0.01% of the activists and that there is no engaging with these folks.  Really Aria Juliet? Interesting because you’ll find all of these people in the GMO Free Kauai group.

Aria

These misguided people seem the be the very ones that Hooser and Bynum are associating with.  The writing is on the wall.  Do you actually think that the public is oblivious to this?

GMO Free Kauai: Silencing a Dissident

In 2007, a study was conducted on the scientific literacy of the US public.  The results found that only 28% of people were considered scientifically literate.  It is no wonder that we are having controversy in our state on issues related to GMOs.  The minority of folks who understand and accept the evidence is the underwhelming minority and even less so when it comes time for speaking out.

If you just take a look at the many recent polls on GMOs in the local papers, you can clearly see that reflected in the results.  There are more people lacking the ability to decipher what is evidence and what isn’t.  Then that same population makes for hot pickings for a very powerful fear mongering campaign by industries trying to grow its market share.

The lack of scientific literacy and the advent of social media has paved the way for this movement supported by a largely uninformed public, who have been bombarded by black marketing tactics and the growing presence of environmental groups.  Extremist activism has now become a mainstream way of life for some here in the islands and it doesn’t look like it is going to stop, unless others are willing to speak up.  However, when activists resort to intimidation, the likelihood of people who disagree with them speaking up becomes even less.  Just watch what happens in this video during the hearing for Bill 2491 and note the emotional tone facing the council members who were hesitating:

Here’s a personal account posted on a Civil Beat article of someone who acknowledges the tactics being used that morning:

There is an even slimmer chance that the leaders in office are sufficiently scientifically literate enough to make sound decisions, knowing the above stated statistics.  It is no wonder we are seeing laws being passed in Hawaii against this technology.

Take a look at some examples of the intimidation that happens if you disagree with their position and make it known:

We also can’t forget Kevin Folta’s interaction with another Kauai activist, Christi Demuth.  Or even the death threats that followed Kevin and Karl after their trip to Kauai.

Now, if you haven’t learned yet, you do not want to disagree with these people because their power is in their loud voices and social media masses.  So if you are a leader in the community, you’d better watch yourself if you are perceived as not supporting their position because you will be subjected to all kinds of nasty and intimidating tactics.  In addition, they will quickly complain about no aloha from the other side, but then look what they have done to Chuck Lasker, who has spoken out about issues concerning biotech:

(Note, if you want to help stop this, please scroll down to the bottom and flag it.)

They are even paying people to sign this petition!

sshaw

Take a look at the commentary of these people.  Note how they claim to be victims but then post vile comments like those above, being the same hateful people signing this petition, and who posted a litany of hate on the Pro GMO FB page when it first came out!

These folks are the same extremists that leaders are working with and listening to in order to make laws.  It’s no wonder why the community remains divided.  In normal political dealings, radicals that can’t be reasoned are marginalized and the reasonable folks are the ones you mostly work with.  That is the leader’s choice to either continue the division by working with loud-voiced radicals or choosing to support what is best for the people as whole and work with more reasonable and cooperative folks.  Unfortunately, with tactics such as those witnessed, what leader wants to be subjected to this?  You’d Better Vote That Way Or Else I Go See You Later In Da Back Alley!
