The Representatives of the GMO Free Club of Kauai

Funny how the news stories explicitly stated that the threats to the mayor were not representative of the anti-GMO movement.  Then another supporter said that they are 0.01% of the activists and that there is no engaging with these folks.  Really Aria Juliet? Interesting because you’ll find all of these people in the GMO Free Kauai group.

Aria

These misguided people seem the be the very ones that Hooser and Bynum are associating with.  The writing is on the wall.  Do you actually think that the public is oblivious to this?

Hooser and Bynum’s Land of No Aloha Activists!

So it has been big news that the anti-GMO Bill 2491 was vetoed by Mayor Carvalho just a few days ago.  Did you ever think that it would be peaceful, calm, and quiet?

Meet the activists of Kauai and see how they treat their leaders.

It is not a surprise that the same activists who disrespect farmers, graffiti roadways, threaten to destroy crops and equipment, and put nasty commentaries all over the social media have shown their true colors once again for all to see.  They can’t see that there are flaws in the bill that would cause significant headaches for the county to deal with based on existing statutes already in place.  One of them being the Hawaii Right to Farm Act.

Just read the commentary coming out from the Babes Against Biotech leader, Nomi Carmona.

Then go to her Babes Against Biotech page and you’ll find many more lovely comments about the Mayor’s decision to veto the flawed law.

And yet another one from Kurtis Kunesh.

We can’t forget that the very person who insisted on passing this law (his initials are G.H.) did not even consider preexisting statutes that would jeopardize it.  Didn’t he and the other County Council members take an oath of office, same as Mayor Carvalho?

“I solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully support the Constitution and laws of the United States of America, the Constitution and laws of the State of Hawaii and the Charter and laws of the County of Kauai, and conscientiously and impartially discharge my duties as ________ of the County of Kauai.”

He continues to refuse to acknowledge that this hate is being spewed by the very activists he supports.  Its like it doesn’t exist in his eyes.  He just continually incites the A’oles with the same information not even bothering to actually state the facts to them about the existing statutes and legal issues.  Could this be a way of keeping people in the dark, just like the tactics of Babes Against Biotech and Hawaii GMO Justice Coalition?

garyhooser

His son unfortunately is no different in that he didn’t even bother to read the attorney general’s opinion on the law or even consider the fact that it was flawed to begin with.  Which politician is adhering to their oath of office to uphold the laws of the state, federal, and county?  It’s the mayor.  But these folks are now ticked off and don’t care how they express it.

mbdhooser

Many activists feel that it is their “right” to act the way they want because they are unhappy. But do they indeed have the evidence and data to support what they are saying?  No, never, and all that is evident are hateful comments like these, with no basis in truth or fact.  These are indeed the faces of the anti-GMO movement here in Kauai but many news articles state otherwise that they do not represent the movement.  Are you kidding?

Look in the mirror and see if you’d like others to remember you that way, captured on the social media forever.  Is there room for yelling, threats of riots and violence in law making? Of course, I’d probably get a comment here saying once again that there is no aloha on my point of view.  Really?  Everything is justified and it doesn’t matter how its done?  Remember, that if you are posting threats, say rotten stuff, calling that there is no aloha, stop posting and doing stuff that is reflective of that.  Then there would be nothing to write about on this blog.  It is hopeful, but not likely at this point.

GMO Free Kauai: Silencing a Dissident

In 2007, a study was conducted on the scientific literacy of the US public.  The results found that only 28% of people were considered scientifically literate.  It is no wonder that we are having controversy in our state on issues related to GMOs.  The minority of folks who understand and accept the evidence is the underwhelming minority and even less so when it comes time for speaking out.

If you just take a look at the many recent polls on GMOs in the local papers, you can clearly see that reflected in the results.  There are more people lacking the ability to decipher what is evidence and what isn’t.  Then that same population makes for hot pickings for a very powerful fear mongering campaign by industries trying to grow its market share.

The lack of scientific literacy and the advent of social media has paved the way for this movement supported by a largely uninformed public, who have been bombarded by black marketing tactics and the growing presence of environmental groups.  Extremist activism has now become a mainstream way of life for some here in the islands and it doesn’t look like it is going to stop, unless others are willing to speak up.  However, when activists resort to intimidation, the likelihood of people who disagree with them speaking up becomes even less.  Just watch what happens in this video during the hearing for Bill 2491 and note the emotional tone facing the council members who were hesitating:

Here’s a personal account posted on a Civil Beat article of someone who acknowledges the tactics being used that morning:

There is an even slimmer chance that the leaders in office are sufficiently scientifically literate enough to make sound decisions, knowing the above stated statistics.  It is no wonder we are seeing laws being passed in Hawaii against this technology.

Take a look at some examples of the intimidation that happens if you disagree with their position and make it known:

We also can’t forget Kevin Folta’s interaction with another Kauai activist, Christi Demuth.  Or even the death threats that followed Kevin and Karl after their trip to Kauai.

Now, if you haven’t learned yet, you do not want to disagree with these people because their power is in their loud voices and social media masses.  So if you are a leader in the community, you’d better watch yourself if you are perceived as not supporting their position because you will be subjected to all kinds of nasty and intimidating tactics.  In addition, they will quickly complain about no aloha from the other side, but then look what they have done to Chuck Lasker, who has spoken out about issues concerning biotech:

http://www.change.org/petitions/rotary-club-of-kauai-remove-chuck-lasker-as-president-elect-of-kauai-rotary

(Note, if you want to help stop this, please scroll down to the bottom and flag it.)

They are even paying people to sign this petition!

sshaw

Take a look at the commentary of these people.  Note how they claim to be victims but then post vile comments like those above, being the same hateful people signing this petition, and who posted a litany of hate on the Pro GMO FB page when it first came out!

These folks are the same extremists that leaders are working with and listening to in order to make laws.  It’s no wonder why the community remains divided.  In normal political dealings, radicals that can’t be reasoned are marginalized and the reasonable folks are the ones you mostly work with.  That is the leader’s choice to either continue the division by working with loud-voiced radicals or choosing to support what is best for the people as whole and work with more reasonable and cooperative folks.  Unfortunately, with tactics such as those witnessed, what leader wants to be subjected to this?  You’d Better Vote That Way Or Else I Go See You Later In Da Back Alley!

Another Bros Against Biotech: Brian Schatz

Well, it has been confirmed that another Hawaii politician has joined the ranks of the Bros Against Biotech:

Yes, he too has not done his homework and actually read the bill but rather relied on the A’ole GMO club for his information.  If Senator Schatz did a simple Google search of “debunk Monsanto Protection Act,” he would have been able to see that it is once again conspiracy theorists at work.

Read here for some background about this bogus act:

http://blog.skepticallibertarian.com/2013/03/28/monsanto-protection-act-anti-gmo-conspiracy-theorists-lose-it-over-minor-deregulation/

http://debunkingdenialism.com/tag/monsanto-protection-act/

http://www.snopes.com/politics/business/mpa.asp

And if you look carefully at who is pushing for this so called act, it is none other than the A’ole groups Food Democracy Now and the Center for Food Safety.  No surprise!

It’s a sad day in Hawaii nei when our own leaders fall prey to the fear mongers and hysterics of the A’ole GMO club.

Nearly a year ago, the labeling bill came into play during the legislative session.  In response to the hysteria going on and the impact that it would have on local farmers, I sent a letter to all of the Senators and Representatives.  I did not get replies from most of them but I did get some from the A’ole GMO ones.  One of them was Senator Mike Gabbard.  Here’s his response…

mike gabbard

If you click on his link of the “proof” of the dangers of GMOs, can you guess what you get? Sadly, I got the debunked Seralini study.

The emails went back and forth and it was learned that he is a tried and true A’ole GMO.  This even further acknowledges his radical stance on GMOs by the revelation that he follows the “RoundUp causes every single disease on earth” paper:

mike gabbard 1

Little does he know that the author, Stephanie Seneff is not a biologist, geneticist, or even a molecular biologist but a computer scientist in artificial intelligence.  Not only that but her so-called “paper” is published in the physical science journal Entropy along with her co-author Anthony Samsel, an environmental activist who is also a chemical engineer.  Does Mike Gabbard not see any problems with this?  If you simply do a Google search under “debunking Stephanie Seneff,” you’ll find out what’s wrong with her paper.  Notoriously, the biggest of their debunked claims was that of a retracted study by Dr. Andrew Wakefield,  listed as a reference.

If you would like to know even more about Mike Gabbard’s stance on commercial farming, just do a Google search of “Mike Gabbard Organic Industry.”  He’s been a long time A’ole GMO club member!  No wonder he wants a label!

mgabbard organic

He and his daughter, Tulsi, have also been active with the Hawaii Health Coalition that they founded and even received a $25K non-bid contract to spread their “healthy environmental messages” paid by taxpayers.

Mike and Tulsi Gabbard are staunchly anti-biotech as evidenced by their participation in the recent Community Plant and Seed Exchange.  Just take a look at who’s involved with this event:

antievent anti event2

One of the sponsors at the bottom of the flier, a cultural food activist, is just another A’ole aloha person, for we which I found this comment from him directed at farmers and an executive of the HCIA:

manaai

It’s amazing how these leaders portray the “organic is superior” and “we are about saving the environment and nature” and so on bit but continue to associate with the most A’ole aloha people around!

So as we can see Mike Gabbard is clearly an A’ole GMO club leader, and he supports the A’ole aloha folks who are so respectful and polite in how they express their views.

The Hawaii GMO Justice Coalition is an interesting Facebook page full of A’ole GMO websites, scare mongering memes, Evict Monsanto stuff, and posts from some very lovely people indeed.  They also are quite conflicted as to whether they want a full ban on GMOs or just labeling.  Same goes for most of these groups with schizophrenic tendencies.  This page also uses its cover to post some very nice comments to farmers.

Here are a few gems from this group:

HJGMO2A

hatelinda

Some commenters even get concerned about what some of their other fellow A’oles post…

HJGMO6

Their is also a noticeable pattern of posting nasty hateful comments that by design are meant to get their supporters worked up and also in the mode of communicating not only hateful messages, but outright condoning of vandalism and violence.

It is amazing how pages like this have such vile, hateful commentary and then always end it with truth, love, peace, and unity!  Along with poison?!

Screen shot 2013-09-08 at 2.27.08 PM

This group is also against Kamehameha Schools and their leases to Monsanto.  Their message is always Evict Monsanto and they even have shirts and caps that advertise their message.  Does this mean that they are anti-Hawaiian?  Do they not want Hawaiians to benefit from the lease land revenue?  We presume so as they are hell bent on getting after Kamehameha Schools.  Maybe a name change is due for this group…  The A’ole Kamehameha Schools Justice Coalition.  That’s the A’ole way for sure!

The Babes Against Biotech Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard

When you think of a congresswoman, wouldn’t you think of someone who is well educated, level headed, and can think on her own two feet about the issues?  Well, I used to think that of these elected officials, but my mind has changed.  I’ve come to realize that some of our congress people are only willing to listen the loudest of the bunch and probably are part of the activist groups that continue to spread A’ole Aloha in Hawaii to further divide communities.

How we know that Ms. Gabbard is part of the Honeys as I call them is based on things I have seen her posting on their Facebook page back several months ago.  She clearly wears Monsanto glasses like so many others that have the same infliction.

BAB Gabbard link

She has also aligned with other A’ole GMO pro label congress people and continues to spread the word about this perceived evil of Monsanto.  Forget the fact that Monsanto is not the only biotech company that sells seeds.

Babgabbard monsantoprot

You know that she is against technology when she responds to the Babes Against Biotech’s post accusing Truth About Trade and Technology of propaganda.

Gabbard and babs

Not only does she continually harp on Monsanto in the social media but she even sends out emails professing her intentions against the popular target of the A’ole GMO club:

monsanto gabbard

Why is she so hell bent on bashing Monsanto and so anti-technology?  You know the term follow the money, well let’s see…

Screen shot 2013-09-21 at 2.59.33 PM

Note that Down to Earth and Noni Connection are on the top of the contributors list and are tied to the organic industry.  She and her father also started a non-profit, Healthy Hawaii Coalition where they also push for their environmentally friendly messages and go organic campaign.  Note that this campaign was even funded by taxpayer dollars at $25K without any bidding.  Taxpayer’s dollars are being used for A’ole GMO activism!

Being concerned about the many farmer constituents in her district, I decided to go on the social media and voice my opinion of her stance and actions as well as call her out for only taking one side on the issue.  The farmers and ranchers that use biotechnology in their work need to be heard.

gabbard invite to farm

I indeed emailed her and her team nearly 3 months ago with not a single response back.  So we can guess that she is not supporting all farmers, including those who use bio-technology, which is sad.  She acknowledged that she went to the A’ole GMO Seed Exchange and to ONE Maui farm, but that was it.  She is also sponsoring a label for GMO foods but neither acknowledges a request for education along with it.  The lack of a response and her correspondence with farmers and her alliances with activists only tell us one thing.  This is the kind of leader she is:

Screen shot 2013-09-18 at 11.13.39 PM

She is yet another opportunistic politician guilty of not researching her evidence and continually creating divisiveness and a lack of aloha in our communities.  I would be way more impressed if she took just a few minutes to listen to the farmers but unfortunately she values the voices of these people instead:

(Notice how this video wants a ban on GMOs yet later these same people will state that they want a label.  Just like Tulsi wanting a label, but more likely disguised as a ban.)

(Note how Tulsi’s friends protest fields being poison and wear masks.  If it is so poisonous, why are you wearing tank tops and shorts?)

Amazing the alliances Congresswoman Gabbard has made!
